Auto Accident

Hello Dr., do you feel that chiropractic can help with whiplash? Have you encountered a case where adjusting the neck made the whiplash worse?

    Andrea,

    Thanks for the post.

Chiropractic care can definitely help treat whiplash. Whiplash in essence is dysfunction of the neck and spine with relation to the joints and muscles. Chiropractors have been proven in research to significantly reduce post car accident pain caused by whiplash.

    As to your second question:

There are phases of healing after a car accident. The initial phase is the inflammatory phase. In this phase all of the tissue in the neck is inflamed due to the recent injury. In this phase a chiropractic manipulation may cause some increased inflammation which would increase pain. A chiropractic manipulation, if not contraindicated, should be tolerated well after the first 3-4 days after a car accident.

    I hope this helps.
